The Tawang Monastery, also referred to as "GALDEN NAMGYEL LHATSE," is one of the largest Mahayana Lamaseries in Asia and holds the title of the largest of its kind in India. This monastery, which is 400 years old, features an impressive 18-foot tall statue of Lord Buddha and is situated at 10,000 feet, surrounded by the picturesque Himalayan ranges and overlooking the Tawang-Chu valley. The Urgelling Monastery is situated 5 kilometers away from Tawang city and is the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama, who was born in the 17th century. The monastery was founded by Lama Urgen Sangpo in the 15th century. Afterward, visit the War Memorial, which honors the valor of the Indian soldiers during the Indo-China war of 1962.
